Araisono (新磯野) is a quiet residential area located in Minami Ward, Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Situated on the eastern side of the Sagami River, this area offers excellent access to urban centers while being surrounded by nature, making it a comfortable place to live.
Historically, Araisono developed as an agricultural area, and even today, many fields and green spaces remain. Additionally, the area is home to traditional shrines and temples, cherished by the local residents. One of the highlights is Araisono Park, a popular spot where locals gather for walks and jogging.
Nearby, you’ll also find Camp Zama (a U.S. military base), which brings an influence of American culture to the surrounding area. Around the base, you can find American-style restaurants and cultural events. Especially during base open house events, visitors can enjoy authentic American BBQ and hamburgers, making it a popular attraction for local residents.
Moreover, the area is well known for its local farmers’ markets, where you can buy fresh produce. The JA Farmers’ Market, in particular, is a favorite shopping spot among locals, offering seasonal fresh vegetables harvested in the morning.
