🪪 The Classification Framework of Activity-Based Statuses and Status-Based Categories 🌏📘

📅 The date of writing this article is Sunday, January 4, 2026 ✨

In effect, this article marks the first post of the New Year 🎍.

🎉 Happy New Year! 🎉
We sincerely appreciate your continued support of Kawana Administrative Scrivener Office this year as well 🙇‍♀️✨

What kind of year will 2026 be? 🌈
—or rather, it is a year that we must make a truly wonderful one 💪✨

Now then, the first theme of the New Year is
🪪 “Activity-Based Statuses” and “Status-Based Categories” 📚

Even for professionals like us who handle residence status matters on a daily basis,
to be honest 🤔, there are probably fewer people than expected who understand this system in a well-organized and systematic way.

To put it bluntly,
👉 you may not necessarily face difficulties even if you do not know this.
This is especially true for members of the general public 😊

So first, let’s keep it simple 👇✨

🔹 What are Activity-Based Statuses?

🇯🇵 These are residence statuses that classify the activities themselves that foreign nationals are permitted to engage in while in Japan.

🔹 What are Status-Based Categories?

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 These are residence statuses that classify the personal status or legal standing that serves as the basis for a foreign national’s activities in Japan.

📌 This is the fundamental difference between the two.

In other words,
although these are matters that we have already been confirming and dealing with 👀,
🔍 the key point lies in whether the classification is based on the activity itself, or
🔍 on the personal status or standing that forms the basis of the activity

📕 The former (Activity-Based Statuses)
➡️ are stipulated in Appendix Table I of the Immigration Control Act,
and under each category, they are organized as:
📝 “Activities permitted to be conducted in Japan.”

📗 The latter (Status-Based Categories)
➡️ are stipulated in Appendix Table II of the same Act,
and under each category, they are organized as:
📝 “Personal status or standing held in Japan.”

📚 As for whether many administrative scriveners
open the Six Codes 📖 or specialized legal books 📘 on a daily basis…
honestly, that may not always be the case 😅

However ✨
by understanding logically:
“What is Appendix Table I?”
“Why does this residence status apply?”

📢 when you are suddenly asked to explain the system, or
📢 when institutional or legal discussions arise,

👉 you will be able to understand things immediately and clearly 🌟
I believe this is a very important point 😊

That said…
👩‍❤️‍👨 for those whose spouse is a foreign national and who simply need to file an application,
this discussion may not really be relevant up to this level (laughs) 😆

Once again ✨
🎍 We sincerely look forward to working with you again this year! 🎍
